Gobo Upstairs

1st March only came once a year, means that's the day where I have to crack my head thinking where should I bring booTak for his birthday (which also means this is a long overdue post. heck, I will still write about it)

After much research done and 3 times changing location (I was practically like one's PA, trying to call restaurant and book places), I set my mind at Gobo Upstairs. Reason being? simple! From 10 posts written by other bloggers, 9 gave 2 thumbs up. So, why bother thinking still!

One thing with booTak his expectations is as high as the twin tower. If you plan to throw a surprise party for him, think twice because he will suspect it at the very inception.

"R u trying to do surprise thing for my birthday?"

"Erm, no. So not! Why so perasan?"

"Better not, I just want simple dinner with you"

"pffttt"

So, with that I specifically act as if I have nothing special plan, only that I told him...

"we're going to KLCC, yang kat atas-atas punya restaurant la k"

I bet he must be very kaciwa. Hahahaha... so off we went to KLCC

Arrived, and I tricked him that I need to go to Traders to see my friend to grab something from him. Much to his disapproval and sad face, he still tag along. Hoping that I will change my mind and take him to somewhere else I guess.

When we reached Traders, we stop at Level 6 and I was like...

"tadaaaaa....we r dining here. Ngeh ngeh ngeh"

"citt!'

Okay, thats the response he gave. Hahaha. Coupled with Omg Omg why you tipu me. Eleh berlakon konon. pffftt

We begin our dinner with this lobster bisque with chocolate oil (RM26++). Well, he liked it, me not so much. I can barely eat the lobster, is there any?

mind the quality. I only have my blackberry camera with me. The taste of the soup to me was a little bit salty. Or maybe it was just me as I saw he was licking his spoon. Haih, cannot bring anywhere la this man.

trying to get every possible drop from the bowl. *sigh*

Done with the appetizer, the main course arrived. I had the Grilled Cod Fish with Salad (RM55++)

Verdict?

YUMMEHHHHHH! The fish was grilled to perfection and as I cut it slice-by-slice, it falls perfectly and it wasnt flaky at all. I like....

He ordered some Wagyu Beef Steak something something served with salad (RM80++)

. Uhhhh, so perfect! The beef is like melt in your mouth so to speak. even without sauce, it was still good.

We also had some side dishes, the sauteed mushroom (RM19++) and Green Beans with creamy sauce (RM15++). The green beans really compliment my fish in a perfect way.

Before we came, I told the person in charge that it is a birthday dinner (uhum, i was expecting some free cake from them),

The very-nice-guy suggested that we give him a marble cheese cake (price unknown) with a candle and the staff will sing some birthday song

My only reply was

NO!!!!!

He hates those singing together-gether clap clap hand kinda birthday celebration. I guess because he is old already. Hahahahaha.

So when the waiter/waitress came full semangat singing their heart out i was like

Danggggggg!!!!!

and he was like

"pfffttttt"

and they spelled his name wrongly!

apakahhhhhhh

Rizhan --> Rizaham!

His response

"BF lain ke ni?

Cissnesss!!!

Cafe Barbera, Bangsar

Received BBM from Miza, miza: "babe, jom makan chocolate fondant kat cafe barbera" me: "heh, is it something like chocolate souffle in Junior Masterchef?" miza: "erm, so called la. but this choc fondant is really gooood. Jom la" me: "hurm, okie will see you there in half an hour" Hokay, I have read some post on Chocolate Fondant at Cafe Barbera earlier. But never have the privillege to pay a visit. First, because Im not really a chocolate sucker in any sense, and second of all I rarely dine out nowadays. Reason? Simple, DIET maaaa.....hehhehee. so the best way of dieting is to dine in and cook simple food that contains less carbs. pfffttttt... So, almost 45 mins later (yah I was procrastinating because I know how late I will be, they will be at least 15 minutes later. huh), I was at Jalan Telawi Bangsar trying to withdraw money from 3 different ATM with MEPS label on it but failed. Damn you MEPS. Technologies nowadays always failed me whenever I need them the most. Actually I dont really know this Cafe Barbera, never been so I have no idea where it is actually. So I thought, Bangsar...hrrmmmm sure at Telawi kan? NOPE!!!!!! I bbm-ed the girls asking their whereabouts only to find out that I was actually at the wrong road. Hahahaa. The cafe is located at Jalan Maarof la, not Jalan Telawi. Sighhhh So off I went to Jalan Maarof, its located nearby Cafe Rebung anyway, for a better landmark. Went in and saw the girls and they laughed at me for my stupidity. Double sigh. As it was already 9pm that time, I rushed them to make up their mind on what to order. Enough changing of menu constantly already! Miza ordered Some Shakerato (RM10), combination of coffee and shakes I think. Must be full of fat too. Dang! But she said it taste goooodddaahh. pfftttt....mind me, im not a coffee drinker and will never be one. I ordered a pot of Earl Grey Tea (RM8) and Ina ordered Apple Juice (RM10). I think both are just ordinary drinks lah. So lets go the real thing, the foooooddddd... Ina had this Creamy Mushroom Bruschetta (RM13). Yummehhh, tasted good and even though theres only 4 slice of bread but we didnt really care. We still curi her food. I had Grilled Chicken Ciabbata Sandwich (RM18). Gooooood, the bread was so crispy, I guess they toast it the right way and the vegie was fresh too...I wanted to try their pizza that day but as I was still in the coma-diet zone, I said big no-no to the cheeeesseeeeyyyyy pizza that they have Must come back one day when Im already in size '0'... (as if) Miza had the Aglio Olio Prawn (RM28) and it was yummmeehhh. They managed to customize it to the Asian taste where they put in slices of cili padi. It has a perfect blend of italian herbs and malaysian taste in it. Highly recommended! So, now we reach the real reason why we are here. The chocolate fondant!

Hurmmmm.....the chocolate fondant (RM12) was rather disappointing I must say. It wasnt as gooey as I expected it. So, we were contemplating should we return it back and request for it to be prepared the way it is supposed to be or just suck it in and enjoy then almost dry fondant U think? Of course we act brave-brave and we requested a nicer one. I was using my '90 seconds' theory of how chocolate souffle should be served right after it is taken out from the oven (thank you to Masterchef US and Junior Mastercher, I know speak some chef language). I even use the Gordon Ramsay theory on how gooey it should be and the waiter is giving me some pffftt look. Hhahahhahaha So they rejected the fondant and made a new one. Still dissapointing as when we cracked the fondant, there were still some batter left uncooked. So, I guess thats the sign from the universe, some karma that I shouldnt eat those kind of fattening food at the first place, now the fondant was like telling me "eat that, sucker" All in all, it was a lovely dinner. I love the ambience and the nice waiter (not the one who gave me the 'wtf, u think u top chef issit). I would probably come back soon, but not for the fondant I guess Address: 18 Lorong Maarof Bangsar Park, 59000, Kuala Lumpur 03 2287 3628 Opens daily from 9am to 11pm GPS Coordinates: N 3 07.732 E 101 40.495

Lounging with Loon: A new perspective in life

Life is all about going back to your roots, going back to the basic and search the purpose; the purpose of you being created by Allah S.W.T and what is your obligation towards Allah and towards human

I had an amazing opportunity to listen to a new perspective of 'dakwah' in which it was translated via a personal experience. It was indeed the perfect educational talk as well as a little reminder for myself that life is all about how you should get closer to your creator, in all sorts of way

Lounging with Loon was organized by Young Muslim Projects, a group of teen/young community who strives to unite young muslims in Malaysia or KL at least with all sorts of islamic educational talk, with one objective to know and learn Islamic deeper.

MasyaAllah, how we are so blessed with this kind of effort. I understand the hardship encountered by teenagers nowadays to really learn and know Islam. With some sceptical perception that Islamic gathering is only for people who vote for 'Green Party' and some cynical view on Muslim teenagers nowadays makes it very difficult to them to really have the perfect medium to translate it in a more adaptable way

Loon or Amir Muhadith was formerly a rapper for P.Diddy (he was in the 'I Need A Girl' video i think). Loon was born in the mid 70’s in Harlem, New York and born to real life Harlem hustlers, Carol Hawkins and William “Hamburger” Hughley, Loon grew up in the streets witnessing the harsh realities of the inner city ghettos. As a way to escape the craziness of the streets, he began writing diaries of his life with an imaginative twist to at least mentally alter the environment around him

While promoting his new business endeavor, “Loon” found himself touring the world performing in new, international markets. While touring in Dubai, an unsuspecting “Loon” would come face to face with a new awakening that would demand his attention as he heard the Adhan (Islamic call to prayer) being recited in the most beautiful, captivating way from the loudspeakers of the Mosques around him. Intrigued by this sound, he began an in depth study of it’s background, meaning and significance.

In his search, he found himself compelled to embrace the faith whole heartedly, and has become devoted in his quest to understand the true teachings of the Holy Qur’an, and life of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. *taken from Loon official website

Loon or brother Amir's interview mostly talked about his experience in the past and how Islam finally bring him to his inner peace. He finally found something that he was searching for all these while.

I was intrigued with his honesty and the way he bring himself now. The way he talk, the way he smile, I would guess that he did not change a bit from the real him. What really change was the way he sees things and his believe that there is no God besides Allah S.W.T.

[ booTak and Rahimi chit chatting with brother Amir ]

At the end of the talk, he told us a very interesting fact.
"Keep on asking for forgiveness from Allah because He is ar-Rahman. He will always forgive you on your misdeeds"

"Be patient. Allah will never test you if you are not capable of handling it"

I personally was really touched by the latter. A lot of things happened to me recently and there were times I almost give up on certain matters. Not anymore, I am indeed a strong person.

Thank you to Rai and Rahimi for the invitation. Educational double date is certainly a thing that we should do often

Universal Studio Singapore

Okay, this is a long overdue entry. Like really looonnngggg overdue.
We had the opportunity to go to the Universal Studio Singapore USS (like last year kot pergi. hehehee), sponsored! so off we go to the Merlion Island!!!!!

As I read the review, most readers suggested that you go as early as possible. Like super early. So we were there at 10am. ye. Sebaik sahaja pintu dibuka kami sudah menyerbu. The line was not that long eventhough it was a 'SOLD OUT' entrance day that day. Ouh ya some tips, whoever wants to go to USS, kindly buy the tickets online prior going. You dont want to be disappointed knowing that you fly to the other side of the country for a SOLD OUT day entrance.

[the famous USS Globe]

More info on USS you can go to this website Resort World

Okay, we started our journey to Ancient Egypt and it was awesome. Ancient pyramids and obelisks stand fast against the sands of time as you are transported to 1930’s Egypt, the Golden Age of Egyptian Exploration. Travel to an era when entire Pharaohs tombs were discovered- and their terrible curses unleashed

[he tried to reach the statue's balls i think]

[fierce! oh well only one remained in character]

[the girl model definitely stays in character]

In Ancient Egypt they only have two kind of entertainment; the Revenge of the Mummy rides and the Treasure Hunters but this is only children I believe. The rides was awesome, we took it twice. Hehehehe...ouh the waiting time is approximately 30mins so yah be prepared. No heels k
While wondering around the USS, you may be lucky to meet all those characters and I was lucky to meet the most adorable character ever in Shrek. Nope, not Shrek himself, and not Princess Fiona.

[ITS PUSS IN BOOTS!!!!!!]

Puss In Boots was adorable and we dance for about 5 seconds. Hehehehe. I managed to catch Shrek too but the camera died on me that time. *sigh*

Theres so many interesting places to visit and so many shows. The one that I like the most was Universal Classic Monsters in “Monster Rock. The show that filled with great music, dancing, comedy, special effects, and enough pyrotechnics to wake the dead (quote from USS website). And all the buildings are super awesome too.

[the construction workers]

[the strollers parking. No parking charges I must say. Sweettt!]

The park were divided into 7 main area namely Far Far Away, Hollywood, Sci-Fi City, New York, Lost World, Ancient Egypt and MADAGASCAR! I love Madagascar. But too bad their rides are yet to be operationalised so I guess its another visit then.

[Penguins are toooooo cute]

[in front of Shrek 4D Adventure]

In Shrek 4D adventour you can see, hear and FEEL the action right from your seat as you join Princess Fiona & Shrek in a fairytale adventure*. Awesome. Ada air sembur2 kat muka jugak. Hehehhehhe

[he and his things about postbox]

[Far Far Away}

[belum bukak lagi BattleStar Galactica]

[I wanna get-oot]

[feels so sexy already]

Anyway, you wont find trouble searching for food in USS, theres plenty of choices and that includes Halal food. We had the delicious fried chicken at Goldilock and its SGD6++ per meal. A little bit pricey but heck everything is expensive if you convert it to RM. If you compare apple to apple I believe Singaporeans are enjoying a very goold lifestyles there. A cuppa @ Starbucks will only cost u SGD4++. Oh well, kalau RM4 kat sini not even coffee at Old Town kot? no?
I suggest you bring lots of supply of mineral water and some bread for in between meal snack. And wear sports shoes okie. Heels is a big no no. Bring your kids, oh well adults pun akan happy at this park. TRUST ME....
Enjoy USS! I absolutely did!

Welcome 2011 @ Jake's Charbroil Steak

First of all, I would like to wish all my readers (well, not that I have many) a very Happy New Year
May we have a wonderful year ahead and may Allah bless us in anything that we embrace, we believe in, we feel, we do and most of all we love.

Before the beginning, there must be an ending.
Well for me and booTak, we ended 2010 with a NYE dinner for the both us and us being 'matured', there were no more party, no more heading to club for countdown and no more excitement to flocked around teenagers to bid 2010 goodbye.

So we went to Jake's Charbroil Steak @ Starhill Gallery, Bukit Bintang
As the name implies, most dishes were meat base and booTak was loving it.

The restaurant was fully booked for the night as lots and lots of people flocked around BB area for some NYE celebration.

[ouh, they have NYE dinner set too. But it was sexpensive. YEIKS!]

A lot of meat selection can be chosen entirely up to your liking. They have sirloin, tenderloin, ribs, shank, you name it. Or should I say they have the whole body of the lembu up for customer to choose.

[some of the selection of beef]

After waited for almost 20minutes, our food arrived. The friendly waiter offered us the sour cream for the potato as well as their signature wasabi mayonaise. yeiks....if you have nose blocked, please have this instead of clarinase. Seriously

[our friendly waiter for the night]

So, I chose the BBQ Lamb Ribs [RM58] for my main. Since I saw the price was wayyyy too expensive and we were already there anyway [cannot cabut u know], so we opted for only main and no appetizer nor dessert. Hehehe.

[ the ribs was succulent and the BBQ sauce was good]

booTak ordered the Aust. Wagyu Sirloin Steak [RM68] for himself and he ordered it medium well. Oh well.

[yummy]

Okay, theres a reason why I put the price of our meal. The ultimate reason is to basically to try my talent as a food reviewer as I received email asking me to review their restaurant for fun (oh, not Jake's thou, I dont think they need that). It was from a complete stranger who thinks that I am honest enough to give honest rating and review about food that I tasted. Oh well, I am not a food reviewer you guys. But theres no harm in trying right

Second of all, I would like to draw your attention on how expensive a meal can be these days. On the menu, there were this Aussie beef which I dont remember the dishes name and it costs RM227. Yup, you heard me right, Rm227 for a meal. Wow, I have to be honest I was quite shocked. That can easily feed a normal family of 5 (parents and 3 kids) for a week with a normal selection of food and dishes.

This definitely makes me thinking how much I have wasted in life and how much of these can actually help other people to survive. *sigh*. I believe in 2011, I will try my level best to resume all my charity works that I used to work on before and perhaps contribute to the society.

But, since it is still 2010 (that night) and I have already ordered! Maka makan sajalah labu.

Overall, I am satisfied with the quality of service, quality of food as well as the ambience of the restaurant. To anyone who feels like eating a whole expensive cow, do make your way to Jake's Charbroil Steak.

They have 2 locations thou
1. Starhill Shopping Centre
(03-21481398)

or

2. Medan Damansara
(03-20945677)

Enough of food review then.

All, in all I must say this year it was different. Different in a sense where I do believe that 2010 went by so fast till I cant even catch up.
There were so many things that I still dont have the opportunity to have it, do it or be into it, and its no surprise when my other half mentioned the same thing too...

Is it us who were slow? or is it time awaits no people who feels that doing/completing or embarking into something can be done at their own sweet time.

One of my mission for 2010 that were flushed under the sink was completing my first 42km run. My first marathon. What make it even worst is the fact that I have already registered for it. Yah, I did.

I couldnt bring myself up for the challenge, I let myself down and I gave up even before I try it. That brings me to a point where I believe I am now becoming even more pesimistic in life and it is daunting.

Nonetheless, I really hope for 180degree change of me in terms of being objective this year and I hope I can achieve it.

Till then,

Happy New Year
